| 3/9/99 Sorry I've neglected
the web site this past week. Too many things are happening. I'll have much more info as
time goes on. Heres a quick update.
We will be offering a complete hitters and pitchers training program via the Internet.
This will cover everything about mechanics and training. It will include analysis of major
league hitters and pitchers. This program will go far beyond anything that's out there
right now (video's, books, whatever). It will "show you" exactly how major
league pitchers and hitters develop power (as opposed to someone "telling" you
how they "think" its done). This is a program you will have to see" to
believe how much it can help you. If you think our present information is good, you will
be amazed and I hope totally thrilled by this program.
And the best news of all. If you have purchased any of SETPROs SMART POWER TRAINING
SYSTEMS or COMPUTERS it's FREE!!!!!. All you need to do is contact us to see if you
qualify and we will give you a ID code to access the internet site.
Our target start date is April 1st. Stay tuned.
Mike Marshall's interview and softball training will be up this weekend. Sorry for the
delay. You can meet Dr. Mike and find out more of the only
person we know who owns a Cy Young Award and a PHd.

Our ISP's WEB server was down from midnight Sunday until 11:45 AM this morning. For
those who tried to get onto our site and were not able, I'm sorry for the problems.

It's been a busy week. Max is tackling some major issues. He will
show us with "facts" how pitchers and hitters generate velocity. I am
finishing my interview with Mike Marshall and will start posting parts of it. We talked
about many issues that affect pitchers training and mechanics.
Mark Johnson series will begin this week. baseball and softball hitters take note. This
will have a lot of info on hitting mechanics. I will explain in detail the process Mark
and I went through. Mark has made some major changes to his mechanics over the past 3
years and I'll explain the why's and "what fors".
I want to thank all of you who called me and emailed me with your support this week.
Especially Kent who called to tell me his 12 year old has added almost 20 MPH to his
fastball in 6 weeks using our training system (and yes he has all of the pitching videos
you can buy or find).
Slow pitch softball hitters have had amazing results with our system. This I'll have a
special section for them on training and getting ready for the season. I know you like
those nice shinny new bats, but I'll show you how you can add two to three times more
distance than the newest Ozone XYZ.
March 1st tomorrow. Where does the time go?!?

Part One Max's block buster series covering some of the
hottest training issues on the web. Max continues his series on training drills (explains
why 2x4 drill can cause problems).

Hand speed is what scouts look for in a prospect. A compact swing with no looping. What
if you could tell after ever swing how quick your hands are and how compact your swing is?
After almost two years of development we are getting ready to ship what I think is major
break through in training technology. It's SETPRO's Personal Smart Power Trainer Model 1
(PSPT1). It can tell you how well your hands are working and how quick your bat is. It's
has the "picture" of a major league swing programmed into its memory and can
tell you if your swing has the same mechanics as a major leaguer. Right now have a limited
quantity arriving for March shipment. For a sneak preview see "PSPT1 Hand Speed Mechanics Personal Trainer"
More news. Former Cy Young award winner, PHD in physiology and true expert on
developing pitchers, Mike Marshall will do a series of interview/question-answer sessions.
Mike has an exclusive training facility in Florida where he prepares college and minor
players. Mike has dedicated his life to the study and methods of maximizing an individuals
pitching performance. He has published papers, written a book on pitching mechanics and
physiology. What is great about Mike is he "pulls no punches". Max and Mike,
this could get really interesting.

Just recieved an email from Mark Johnson (see main training page). I worked
with Mark Johnson (major league player) this past December and January. The Angels
released him to play in Japan with the Hanshin Tigers of the Central League. Mark arrived
in Japan about a week ago. They train on one of the out ward islands (Japanese take their
baseball very seriously, no distractions). I'll be doing a major series on Mark and his
training that explain how home run mechanics work.
Max is prparing a real "block buster" series where he explains in
detail the pitfalls of drills ( he will explain in detail why 2x4 drills can cause
problems). He will also address more about he kinetic chain and show you how a high leg
raise can translate to more velocity using Nolan Ryan as an example. An finally he will
show you how Vern Gambetta and SETPRO's SMART POWER training program are based on he exact
same principles" and how Vern even referred to throwing a weighted ball as the
highest form of sport specific training. Stay tuned, it should get interesting.

I am looking for a limited number of pitchers and hitters high school, college
players who are serious players and feel they have "topped out" and want to
improve their bat speed or throwing velocity. I want a video tape of you to test some new
computer analysis techniques. There will be no charge (other than what it would cost you
to send the tape). You will recieve many $$$ worth of time and effort and I think be very
pleased and surprised with what we will send you (analysis of your tape). Please contact
me via email with your particulars (age, height, weight, how long playing, hitter or
pitcher, statistics, average, power, wins, losses, etc). If you are a pitcher, what is
your velocity. Also describe what you goals are for improvement and where you live. Please
respond by EMAIL only to pnyman@setpro.com.
Existing SETPRO customers are welcome (I've talked to a number of you, but most of you
have not come through with he tapes and I'm too busy to "remind" you). So if you
are interested, email me with your info.

Max is at it again. He continues his
battles with the "pullers", "hip closers" and "forces from the
dark side". But "Obi-Wan" has sent the FORCE (American
Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine) to Maxes rescue. See the SETPRO's BASEBALL PITCHING FORUM "GURUS" to
see how it all turns out.

Designing the most efficient training programs
for hitters and pitchers requires a complete understanding of mechanics (more
specifically, bio-mechanics). No hitting or pitching mechanics program (book or video)
that I am aware of deals with the most important aspects of hitting or pitching, "the
human body". They all assume that by doing an assortment of mostly arbitrary or
random exercises, that you will achieve a state of physical training that allows you to
swing or throw for maximum power and control. Nothing could be further from the truth. All
of these systems treat "symptoms" and rarely get to the root of the real
problems. I constantly monitor web sites to see what kinds of questions people are asking.
I am currently following a discussion on a popular hitting site. The main question being
asked deals with developing power/mechanics to hit home runs (or at least get lift on he
ball). The answers being given are almost criminal in their total lack of understanding of
the mechanics and physiology of power. In the very near future we will start our
"SMART POWER Home Run Power Mechanics" series. Until then, try our baseball or
softball forums for questions/answers on training and mechanics. Stay tuned.

Bill Thurstons "VIDEO
ANALYSIS OF THE PITCHING MOTION - CHECK POINTS FOR COACHES". Some
very good info, but again we have some differences of opinion.
Paul

Bill Thurston is viewed by many as "the
pitching mechanics expert". Several years ago he gave a presentation entitled "Mechanical Faults Common to High School and College
Pitchers". It has some very good information which for the most part I agree with
(there are a few very interesting exceptions which will be discussed in detail at a later
date). Stay tuned.

Kris Benson's UPPER BODY weight program added
to Max's "Power Behind the Pitch". This is a great
starting point for high school, college, professional pitchers or hitters to develop an
upper body weight program. Lower body program will follow shortly. Look for some major
happening over this weekend.

See "SETPRO CLASS ROOM" new article on the advanced training principle used in the SMART
POWER TRAINING SYSTEMS and PRODUCTS. Include info on vision that explains why these so
called "vision products" are largely a waste of time and money (they train only
focal vision, but ambient vision is much more important for hitting a baseball). More
information on SMART POWER TRAINING FOR PITCHERS (SPTFP). See "Two Years in the
making..... If you truly want to reach your maximum capabilities, SETPRO will get you the
closest in the shortest time. " Whether you're 9 years old or 29 years old, baseball
or softball, hitter or pitcher, SMART POWER guarantees the maximum results with the least
amount of wasted time and efforts.

Hooray!! Victory!!! The evil "web
bulletin board gremlins" have been defeated (for now anyways). The basic SETPRO FORUM
is up and running. Just click and follow instructions.
Be warned that this is preliminary and its
appearance and features will change shortly. But the info will stay in tact.

Hello everyone and welcome to www.setpro.com.
My name is Paul Nyman. I am the founder/owner
of Sports Engineering and Training Products (SETPRO). As you probably guessed, we take a
technical approach sports training. My goal is to develop methods and systems that achieve
maximum results with the minimum amount of wasted efforts.
I want to thank everyone who has waited so
patiently (and long) for this web site to get started. I've promised for a long time that
this would be the best training site on the web and now it's time to "put up or shut
up".
The World Wide Web is the most powerful tool
ever created for communication and exchanging ideas on a world wide scale. That's why
SETPRO and this web site exist. To bring you the best possible information and tools to
help you achieve your dreams.
95% of you that are reading this are not
coming anywhere near your sports capabilities. You are using methods that are inefficient.
You are using methods that are "hit or miss". You are using methods that have
absolutely no scientific basis. You are using methods that are in fact preventing you from
achieving your maximum capabilities.
You have heard these same statements from all
of the other "experts". What "snake oil" (magic cure) is SETPRO
selling?
That's why I started this web page. To show
what's in my "my snake oil". You can then compare my snake oil with everyone
else's and make your decision.
This week will mark the real beginning of
"The Best Training Page On The Web". By the end of the week there will be many
new additions.
We will start out hitters and pitchers
training sections. This will include training programs to get you ready for the Spring
Season.
We will try to activate the Forums for hitting
and pitching this week. I say try because we are not sure our present web service is
capable of running the bulletin board program that we have chosen. We tried to start them
this weekend, but ran into problems with their server. I hope to have an answer Monday.
We will also start our series on what we have
learned about pitching mechanics and training after two years of extensive research. This
includes every piece of research that we are been able to find as well as the results of
our training programs. I feel this series will be one of our most important contributions
we can make to you the parent/coach/player. We have tried to take a totally objective view
of the pitching process. This includes published all the research we can find on
physiology and biomechanics of pitching. This series explores the past and present
thinking on mechanics. We will cover issues of "drop and drive", "tall and
fall" and "pull not push" off of the rubber. I am sure it will spur some
interesting discussions. I look forward to your comments.
Please email your comments and suggestions. If
I don't meet your needs, then there is no reason to have this web site.
Again, thank you for your patience and I hope
you will enjoy your visits.
Sincerely
Paul Nyman
